La Parisienne Pates, Carlton

Following lunch at Cafe Trevi, we went next door to La Parisienne Pates, a French gourmet deli (charcuterie) which sells all sorts of yummy products ranging from macarons, sandwiches, cheeses, pates, cured meats and many many others. Walking into the store felt like I just walked into Paris.

After gawking briefly at the various foods in the counter, we went straight to the back where the colourful macarons reside. They looked so good that we just had to get one of each! Jeff was so enwrapped in tasting his first macarons that he opened the wrapping on the spot and we ended up eating most of them before we even got home. Unfortunate for me, I couldn't get nice pictures of each one.

The flavours were (from left to right in the glass counter), pistachio, coffee, chocolate, lemon, black currant, rosewater, raspberry and hazelnut. The coffee and chocolate macarons were dense and very strong in flavour, they tasted almost like cake (very nice mind you), same goes for the hazelnut, although not as intense in hazelnut flavour. The black currant and lemon ones were a bit too sweet for my liking and were not my favourite ones out of the batch. Pistachio was nice, although I couldn't taste much pistachio in it. The green colour looked a bit too artificial to me as well. I would recommend the ones from Hardware Societe more since I'm so in love with them :D. The raspberry one was Jeff's favourite I believe, it wasn't as sweet as the others and had a burst of raspberry flavour - tasted like raspberry jam in the middle. My favourite one was the rosewater, it was lightly sweet (not overpowering) and the subtle rosy taste was delicious. I guess I'm a fan of less sweet macarons. The macarons here are $2 each compared to $2.50 at Hardware Societe, but Hardware Societe's is larger. Next time, I will try La Parisienne Pates' other desserts as well :).

Their lunch menu also looked appetising, I think they just grab the existing food from the counter (such as the pies and tarts) and serve those. I regretted not having any room in my stomach to grab a bite or two. Next time!

On the way out, Yuye also bought a duck and rosemary terrine for $8.32 and an awesome mustard in a stone jar for $16. I wanted to buy more things from their deli because everything just looked so good but then there'd be no end to my purchases, sigh. At times like this, I wish my wallet was as fat as I am.

If you haven't yet done your Christmas shopping, consider buying one of their hampers. Your recipient will surely love you to bits for it. :) Also from the sign on the window, it seemed they were hiring at the time, not sure if the position has been filled yet but if you're interested, drop by the store and say hi.
