Hot Room Cocktail - give me something thirst quenching!

I know I said I was going to try writing one post a day. That was part of my 2012 New Years resolution. Just 2 weeks after New Years, I've already missed 2 days and will be missing another one tomorrow. Feeling a bit ashamed at my lack of endurance, I hope you can forgive me as I really have been busy. Tomorrow I will be a bridesmaid at one of my best friend's weddings. It's going to be a blast but it means I won't be able to write tomorrow either. After tomorrow, I promise I will be writing every day again! :D

For the mean time I leave you with another one of my alcoholic adventures, or rather Yuye's. It was a very hot day that day and he said 'I want a drink that's cold and thirst quenching. I'm thirsty!' So, he made this cocktail. Although I think it backfired on him because although it was cold, it was a bit too alcoholic to be thirst quenching.

Hot Room Cocktail - give me something thirst quenching!
Ingredients:

- 20ml Cointreau
- 20ml Limoncello (the one I used was house-made, I will post up a recipe for this at a later date)
- 20ml Southern Comfort
- 40ml soda water
- wedge of lemon
- 40ml apple juice or pineapple juice*
- a few slices of apples as garnish
- ice cubes

*Instead of just using soda water and the above alcohols like we did, it's better to also add in a juice of some sort, such as apple juice or pineapple juice so that it's not as strong.

Instructions:

1. Top a cocktail glass half full with ice cubes and pour Cointreau, Limoncello, Southern Comfort, soda water and apple/pineapple juice inside.

2. Squeeze lemon juice then stir with a stirring stick until combined.

4. Garnish with apple and lemon slices.

Note: As we are adding in soda water, you cannot shake the drink in a shaker, however you can shake the drink if you only add juice and not soda water.

I cheated with the ingredients photo above as the 'soda water' in the photo is really just water. Yuye said if I poured the soda water out then it wouldn't be as fizzy. :(

I also couldn't think of a name for the cocktail afterwards and asked Yuye for some input. He looked at me and shrugged, saying 'it's hot.' So 'Hot Room Cocktail' it became. I know it's a very lame name, if you can think of a better one, leave me a comment below! :D

Question time: Have you had times when it was so hot that you couldn't think straight? I often have days like that even though it's not hot. :P

Did you enjoy this post? If so, why not share it with your friends?

  1. Sounds interesting, but I have a suspicion it will be perfect to drink while floating in the pool. I find it hard to post three times a week. You've done amazingly well at posting everyday (or very close to it).

Have fun at the wedding! I'm hoping we can see some fabulous pictures of the big day!

    1. Drinking this while floating in the pool sounds like a fantastic idea!

I had a great time at the wedding, albeit being very very tired. I slept a lot today. :P Didn't manage to take any good photos though as I was busy doing things but there's a lot of professional photos :)

  3. i love your cocktail phase! It's awesome :D I love all your cocktails. I remember when my mum went through her cocktail phase. The best thing about it was convincing her to buy vodka, gin, creme de menth and apple schnapps :P This one looks yum as! I can't wait to try them :)

    1. Thanks! :D I didn't have to convince Yuye to buy anything, he loves it himself. He's even considered being a bartender :P I reckon one day we'll open a bar. :D

  4. I hope your friend's wedding was amazing and that you had an incredible and special time being bridesmaid. What a thrill. And don't be too hard on yourself. It's great to set goals but just do what you can do.

    1. I did have an amazing time! I was purely running on adrenalin though as we woke up at 5am to do makeup and hair...
I know..:( I guess it's ok to skip a few days when I really don't have time to write :P

  6. Oooh.. one post a day may seem to be too hard to upkeep, why don't you try a post every two days? Might be easier to maintain! Thanks for this alcoholic recipe!

    1. Yeah I thought about that but I was trying to set myself a harder goal so it's not as bad when I miss it..if I set 1 every 2 days, I'll just find other excuses to make it 1 every 3 days..:P

  7. Hi, I find I do several posts on a weekend and schedule them to release later in the week, that way I'm not under the gun when I get busy at work! What a refreshing cocktail, cheers!

    1. Yeah I tried doing that but somehow writing many a day is difficult for me. That's what I need to get into a routine for...write as many as I can on a day when I'm free and schedule them all...
